猶太傳統說

In Jewish belief, blue represents the sky — and through the sky, the presence of God and Heaven. When Jewish refugees fled the Spanish Inquisition and settled in Chefchaouen in the 15th and 16th centuries, they brought this tradition with them.

The Practical Theory

Local wisdom holds that the blue-painted walls act as a natural mosquito repellent. Some residents also point out that the cool-toned walls keep houses noticeably cooler during summer months in the mountains.

當地人相信藍色塗料可以驅蚊，蚊蟲不喜歡明亮反光的表面。也有人指出藍色牆面能使室內在夏季更涼爽。這個邏輯隨著藍色本身一起蔓延，代代相傳。

The Sea & the Sky

Some locals say the walls represent the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. Others connect the colour to the Ras el-Maa waterfall. In Islam, blue is also associated with happiness and optimism.

部分居民說藍色代表晴天可見的地中海，另一些人則將它與生命之源 Ras el-Maa 瀑布相連。在伊斯蘭文化中，藍色也象徵快樂與樂觀。
